Tonya.me.uk - The story (2005).

About 18 months ago I wrote about the story of my website and how it evolved. I figured in 2005 it was time to update this feature. You can read the story up to 2003 then see what happened after that.

Storyboard

Those original storyboard plans on a piece of paper were great and all evolved from 4 main areas. In 2005 Tonya's Personal site has has moved from www.xtab.co.uk to its own domain on www.tonya.me.uk and needed a little more planning.

Layout Maps & Plans

This is the map for tonya.me.uk done in 2005. There are now over 60 pages in the site not counting the Marine section or the administration area which has about 20 of its own pages.. You can click to enlarge this map done using inspiration software.

marine site map

This is the plan for the Marine section of the site.

I added this section in 2004 after starting my marine biology / oceanography degree course. I have included resources I found as well as all sorts of interesting marine information and some revision notes. really i found that it helped me revise as I was typing and putting pages together I had to research topics I was studying and revising for.

Metamorphosis of www.tonya.me.uk

2002

I started in 2002 with this pink colour. Why I am not sure I simply liked the colour on screen. The screen was built up with frames and a left alignment with hover buttons in the menu. I didn't use styles back then so most formatting was inline. Looking back at the code now its pretty messy.

2004

In 2004 I went for a more centrally framed page with no layers. This time there is a table holding everything together. The funky colourful header was put together from pics I had of me on my machine & overlaid with a pink wash. I was still using the same menu.

Xmas 2004

I decided that a special Xmas theme was called for and went for these nice blues with a snowy backdrop. This was posted for all of december.

2005

In 2005 I have completely moved into using style sheets and a lot of the format now comes from a style sheet so a simple change can affect the whole look of the site without having to upload all the pages again. Back to pink this time with a slight border staying with central style.

Always evolving so who knows what will happen next !

Website Marketing
I also researched website marketing and found that its really easy to register with all the top search engines. One or two want money off you to ensure you stay up in the top ratings but there are also websites like this one http://www.internet-marketing.me.uk who do Marketing & Search Engine Submissions for you and proclaim Guaranteed Hits Internet Marketing as their game so its worth checking out one or two of those too. At the end of the day the best way your site will get seen is just by existing. The longer it exists and is established the higher it will go in the lists and if you or your designer uses file names and titles and text properly with good meta tags that will help an awful lot.
