DEC 28th 2004 - Tsunami HIts Asia

The biggest news story this year has to be the disasterous earthquake resulting in a Tsunami that has destroyed parts of coastline across 7 different countries around the Indian Ocean leaving thousands, tens of thousands dead and many more destitute.

Our hearts go out to them.

DEC 2004 Human Brain - Fast Evolution.

Apparently we have super evolving brains. Genetics experts have after research decided that our brain has not evolved as normal with a few mutations gradually occuring but as the result of enormous numbers of mutations over short periods of time acquired through an intense selection process favouring complex cognitive abilities. Probably because those humans with these mutations were able to survive when others were not by thinking their way out of dangerous situations or coming up with new ways to survive. Human evolution as it turns out has been a privileged process out stripping the evolution of the genes of other animals.

The thought of the human race as super brains that make us unique on the planet is kinda wierd. Anyone who stands outside a club on a saturday night can vouch for that !! What a shame some humans don't act quite so priviliged!

March 2004 New Planet called Sedna.

The Guardian G2 magazine had an article on the new planet (?) called Sedna. This mysterious object lies beyond the orbit of Pluto. NASA scientists have found the lump of icy rock that they have named Sedna check out their information on the NASA web site.NASA Site. Sedna was an Inuit sea goddess. Astrologers are jumping to work out how they will account for Sedna in their horoscopes. Mystic Meg announced it was a sign of a new way of life, a scientific wa7 of life. Sedna has also been categorized as a water sign and has "passion power" because the goddess and the planet are apparently female. I think its quite an exciting discovery but am not sure that I will be checking my horoscope for Sedna's influence anytime soon !

JANUARY 2004 - CELEBRITY ART !

We love that element of looking into other peoples lives but I did think that a whole article on what celebrities liked to hang on their walls was pretty dumb really ! This was posh & becks pink heart ! It is a pink heart by Damien Hirst. It has impaled butterflies as a statement about love something Damien Hirst has been doing since the 1990's.
