Went to see 'The King And I' at North Wales Theatre in LLandudno. Absolutely amazing performance. The costumes were great, singing awsome and yes I cried when the King died. Book by Oscar Hammerstein

SynopsisIt is 1862 in Siam when an English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, having been summoned by the king to serve as tutor to his many children and wives. The king is largely considered to be a barbarian by those in the West and he seeks Anna's assistance in changing his image, if not his ways. With both keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the king grow to understand and, eventually, respect one another, in a truly unique love story. An amazing story which is as great on stage as I had hoped it would be. The play within a play - Tuptim's presentation of The Small House of Uncle Thomas , in which Harriet Beecher Stowe's passionate denunciation of bigotry in America, Uncle Tom's Cabin , has been transformed into a Siamese ballet and is a beautiful piece of theatre. The famous dance scene that follows is great and you can hear all those feet tapping around the audience.

Eating at LLandudno Theatre |
|
The only thing I would say is don't rush to eat at the theatre. We were running a little late and decided it might be nice as an extra treat to eat at the Theatre. We opted for the carvery and to be honest it was awful. It wasn't cheap and for the price it was a pretty poor meal. Meat was ok but fatty and a bit dry. The vegetables were overboiled and not seasoned so very bland. The starter was pretty poor & Simon wasn't really sure what the soup was possible vegetable possibly leek and potatoe? Desert we chose the fruit meringue. It was out of a box with a dollop of cream and a cut up strawberry. For £15 a head we would have been better off at McDonalds down the road ! My advice: Eat somewhere else but don't miss the show it was awsome! |
