Tonya Absailing South Stack Lighthouse - May 22nd 2005

The Royal Marines are organising the event so I should be in safe hands. The initial target amount of sponsor money will go to Seafarers UK.

Ok mad I know but there you go. Figured would be a challenge. Both to actually complete the absail and to raise the target money within two days.

I aim to try and make £150. If I make extra then I will split it between Seafarers UK and my Walk the Walk Breast Cancer fund raising attempt.

I hope to raise as much as possible and be able to put a good amount into my Breast Cancer fund too. So wish me luck. You can view seafarers site here http://www.kgfs.org.uk/

Seafarers UK (also known as King George's Fund for sailors) work on behalf of all seafarers and has granted over £26 m to families of those that have risked their lives at sea. A worthwhile cause considering we are an Island Nation who's history is and always will be linked to the sea.

South Stack Lighthouse was built in 1809 and is 28 metres tall (aprox 100 ft). The light is 60 metres above sea level. I expect it too look quite high once you are at the top. Let you know tommorrow !! It is near Holyhead on Anglesey.

South Stack is the most westerly stationed lighthouse in Wales. There are 400 steps from the Car Park to the Lighhouse and my Dad tells me when he was courting my Mum they used to come and walk out to South Stack to watch the Sea. How very romantic !!

I did it ! I absailed South Stack Lighthouse.

Tonya absailed South Stack lighhouse and survived. Its scary going over the ledge at the top and getting onto the lighhouse wall. I was petrified of letting go of the rope at first. One of the marines told me not to go too fast and try to take time to stop and look around. The view is amazing ! I enjoyed it that much I actually did it again for fun !! See the photo's

I raised £127 for Seafarers UK & also managed to get some sponsors towards my Great North Run for Breast Cancer in September.
